"The Knights of St. John" is the story of the 900 year history of the world's oldest Order of chilvary. Founded in 1099 in Jerusalem, they were "The Hospitalers", charged with assisting and healing all who made pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The resurgance of the Muslem Saracens forced them to take up arms, and in time they became one of the greatest military organizations in history, finally defeating the Ottoman Empire at the Great Seige of Malta in 1565. Today they are the world's smallest sovereign nation ... a nation devoted entirely to charitable works helping, as they put it, "Our Lords, the sick and the poor". This documentary was filmed on the island nation of Malta, in Lourdes, France, on the island of Rhodes, Greece, and in San Juan Capistrano, California.
